David Sewe, 36, was arrested at the Ponda Mali slum over drug trafficking on August 27.

He was taken to Kasarani police station before he was transferred to the Central Police Station where an officer shot him dead.

A family source said the suspect had demanded a bribe of Sh50, 000 which they could not raise.

“He said he would kill him if we don’t take that money to him,” the source said.

They were later told that Sewe was shot dead at night ‘as he tried to escape from custody’.

The officer was arrested and is being held as investigations continue.

He will plead to charges on September 7 before a Nakuru court.

“We are not sure if we will get justice because the case is being investigated by his colleagues,” a family source said.
