Barely a week after a Garissa bus was involved in a tragic accident that killed 14 people, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has suspended the vehicle's operational licence pending conclusive investigations.
The Public Service Vehicle (PSV), operating under Grand Bus Sacco, was involved in a grisly accident along the busy Garissa-Mwingi road on Sunday night where 14 people perished, leaving others with body injuries.
According to NTSA, the trailer driver never placed any warning sign on the busy road to alert all oncoming motorists that a stalled vehicle was parked nearby.
While also blaming the driver of the ill fated bus, NTSA said the driver had proceeded without exercising due caution, considering the nature of the road section that is straight and flat.
Furthermore, the authority directed the company’s management to table a comprehensive report on the unfortunate Sunday night incident.
The drivers of both the trailer and the bus, Abdullahi Sugow Muhuned and Osman Ali Guhad respectively, were also not spared as their licences were also revoked pending in-depth investigations.
Almost every year, a number of buses plying the route have been involved in fatal accidents. Local authorities now want the road flagged as a blackspot.
