Leaders in the region have raised alarm over an ongoing plan by the two leaders to aid each other succeed the other in the much anticipated election.

Led by former Rarieda lawmaker Nicholas Gumbo who is eyeing the top seat, the leaders on Friday vowed to thwart any attempt of such kind.

Speaking during the funeral ceremony of West Yimbo Chief Daniel Tiang', Gumbo and a section of ward representatives accused the two of turning people into professional voters.

They said that the plan will not bring in any development considering that both leaders have been tested after serving for two terms each.

Gumbo said that the leaders, both of whom come from the upper side of Yala must now vacate office and hand over the mantle to a new group of leaders.

“We are no longer going to be “professional” voters. The people of upper Yala have served their two terms and they should allow people from the other regions to lead," he was quoted by the Standard.

The Members of County Assembly (MCAs) accused the duo of facilitating the worsening poverty in the area and must be dethroned at whatever cost.

“We can’t run away from succession politics,” said Yimbo East MCA Francis Otiato.
