Gor Mahia FC players and members of the technical bench were on Tuesday hosted for a sumptuous breakfast in Mombasa as they prepared for their afternoon clash with Bandari FC at the Mbaraki Stadium.
The sponsor of the meal was opposition chief Raila Odinga's former close ally-turned critic Eliud Owalo who ahead of the August 8, general election took issue with the former prime minister as he angled to vie for the Kibra MP seat. The constituency seat, then, was also being eyed by Raila's eldest daughter Rosemary Odinga.
Raila is the patron of Gor Mahia and it is not yet clear why Owalo chose to host a team which Raila leads as a patron well knowing that he cut ties with the former Langata MP.
Gor Mahia announced of the breakfast meeting on the team's official Twitter account saying: "The team having breakfast at PrideInn Paradise Hotel in Mombasa hosted by businessman Eliud Owalo. We play Bandari FC at the Mbaraki Stadium."
Owalo, ahead of August 8th, when it turned out that Rosemary was being prepared to contest for the Kibra MP seat shut doors on Raila and turned out to be his biggest critic in the constituency that hosts Africa's largest slum, Kibra.
When pressure against Rosemary's candidature became unbearable, Raila had to drop her name in the MP race.
Rosemary fell ill and was admitted in hospital in South Africa. That marked her end in the race for the constituency MP seat which was retained by Ken Okoth.
