The Speaker of Ugandan Parliament Rebecca Kadaga is currently admitted at an undisclosed hospital in Nairobi, Kenya where she is undergoing specialized treatment.
Kadaga was airlifted to the nation’s capital after she fell ill moments after returning to Kampala.
Confirming the incident, Mr Sam Obbo, the principal press secretary in the Speaker’s office said that the transfer came after doctors advised his team to do so. The spokesperson also said that she is doing well following treatment at the facility.
“She is stable and continues to recover. She looks forward to resuming her duties in the shortest time possible,” Mr Obbo said in his statement, as quoted by Daily Nation.
Kadaga has been treated for a fatigue related disease before she was flown into the country for better treatment. She became ill after tiresome tours to New York, US and Rabat in Morocco.
She attended the 63rd UN Commission on the Status of Women where Kenya is being represented by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta.
The speaker was reportedly unconscious at the time she was admitted at an intensive care unit (ICU) at the Kampala based hospital before she was brought into the country for special checkup.
It remains unclear when she will be discharged from hospital to continue with her normal duties in government.
