There was drama in 2017 at the height of the presidential campaigns when the Jubilee brigade pitched camp in Northern Kenya's Wajir County.
Excited residents who had come to see and listen to the president and his deputy surged towards the podium, prompting the swift reaction of the officers charged with securing the rally.
The overzealous officers descended on the surging crowd with beatings, causing Deputy President William Ruto to intervene.
Angry at the 'brutal' response, those at the back started throwing projectiles at the police.
"Please, officers. I want those police officers to be told to come back here. These people should be allowed to come here because they have come to see the president," the DP said with a sense of finality.
Without questions, the police officers heeded the deputy president's words and stopped beating the residents.
Normalcy was restored and the rally continued without any further mishap.
