Kethi Kilonzo, the daughter of the late Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Senior has taken a low profile after her first attempt to join politics flopped in 2013.
The youthful lawyer has remained silent raising questions on her whereabouts and her chances of making it to politics someday.
She shot to fame in 2013 during the Supreme Court hearing of the presidential petition that had been filed by opposition leader Raila Odinga challenging the election of President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Kethi’s eloquence and confidence saw her win the admiration of Kenyans and politicians.
In May 2013 after the sudden death of her father, Kethi was nominated as Wiper candidate to contest for the Makueni Senatorial seat in the by-election.
The youthful lawyer campaigns across Makueni County but dropped out of the race saying she could not contest against her mother who had also declared an interest in the seat.
Kethi’s withdrawal from the race forced Wiper party to nominate her brother Mutula Kilonzo Junior for the seat.
Kilonzo Junior won the seat.
In July 2013, Kethi found herself in trouble after the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) accused her of allegedly forging a voter’s slip.
The case is still active in court.
Political analyst Peter Ngure says Kethi has a chance of making it back to politics.
“She has what it takes to be a leader and I think it is time she ventured into active politics,” Ngure says.
Kethi says she has a heart for politics and will make key decisions in the coming years.
“I would love to represent Kenyans and push their agenda but I am still deliberating on the idea,” Kethi said after quitting the race for the Makueni senatorial by-election in 2013.
