While some drugs may be important to your body when it comes to combating different conditions, at some point, they may be dangerous.
Different medications have been linked to male infertility. They are believed to wreak havoc to your reproduction system.
Dr Hurwitz points out that depending on the type of drug, your sperm production can decrease drastically.
Here are the medications that affect male fertility;
1. Steroids
Steroid as a prescription drug is known for aiding in building muscles. However, using it more often can be perilous. It is reported that the drug causes sperm count to drop.
“Testosterone supplements of any form will cause sperm count to drop to zero—whether there’s a little of it in a vitamin a man takes, he uses illegal anabolic steroids at the gym, or he gets a prescription testosterone replacement from his doctor,” says Dr Hurwitz in a piece published on parents.com
2. Chemotherapy drugs
They are tasked with quelling tumours. The therapy ravages the reproduction system by lowering the production of sperms.
“Chemotherapy works by killing rapidly dividing cells. It primarily targets the cancer cells; however, sperm cells are also dividing cells and so will too be targeted by the chemotherapy,” says Shona Murray, M.D, an ob-gyn and director of Advanced Reproductive Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver.
3.Opioids
They cause more harm than good. If you must use them, do so in moderation.
