Speaking on Radio Jambo on Monday evening, Etale said that the move was well deliberated before being announced, where the party would back President Uhuru Kenyatta's proposal for one year.

After this, the party said, the government must have established separate means of acquiring the extra needed funds.

He gave an impression that it was as well agreed on between the party leadership and Uhuru’s side, noting that ODM would have cut the current good relationship between it and Uhuru’s leading Jubilee Party should the agreement not have been fulfilled.

‘’Iwapo mwaka utaisha na serikali haijaboresha mambo ya uchumi  basi tutatafuta njia nyingine, na kila mtu anajua sisi tukikasirika serikali haitapata utulivu (we might be forced to disrupt the government’s operations should the provided time-frame lapse),’’ he said.

He said that the party hopes that the government realises its campaign promises and betters the nation, terming it unfortunate that it is overtaxing Kenyans to deliver its earlier vows.

‘’Serikali lazima iwajibike na ijue ni kazi yake kuboresha maisha ya wakenya (the government has to be responsible and undertake the needed measures to ensure that Kenya is a better place),’’ he added.

The party made the controversial decision last Tuesday, two days before the amendment was passed on the floor of the National Assembly.
