Dennis Onyago, the longtime spokesman for ODM leader Raila Odinga, will after all not take Presidential Strategic Communication Unit leadership, it has been established.
President Uhuru Kenyatta was on the verge of deploying the veteran journalist to the position, which his currently held by Kanze Dena in acting capacity.
A NASA secretariat member privy to ongoing changes in government said that Mr. Onyango was worried that the move could backlash on Odinga.
"Odinga and Uhuru viewed Onyango as a Kenyan thus the decision to have him take over as PSCU head.
"However, in his view, the move could have heightened political temperatures thus his decision to reject the offer," said the source.
Raila's smooth working relationship with Uhuru has rattled a section of Jubilee operatives with Sports CS Rashi Achesa claiming on Saturday that the former is orchestrating his sacking from government.
Although Uhuru is yet to announce proposed changes to cabinet, sources say that he could kick out a section of ministers whose dockets have been embroiled in various scandals.
Even with the rumours about Raila's influence in government, the former PM dismissed speculations that he is pushing to have his allies in government during an interview with Citizen TV last week.
