Locals at Kondoo farm in Kesses constituency can now have something to smile and brag about after one of their own was awarded a PhD on Friday.
Dr Wanjiku Omolo, 38, who hails from a humble background got a PhD in Education - Kiswahili from the University of Eldoret during the institutions 6th graduation ceremony.
She now becomes the first woman from the farm to reach this level of education.
Speaking after her graduation, Dr Omolo said it was through hard work and determination that she was able to get the PhD.
“I am very happy and I thank God for lifting me from a humble background to this level despite many challenges," she said pointing out that getting an education at Kondoo was not easy as most people are very poor and some did not know the importance of education.
Dr Omolo now says she will use her PhD to give back to the community by sensitizing and encouraging them that challenges in life should not deny them a chance to access education.
“I looked where I came from and I realized that people don’t go to school. That is what inspired me to pursue my education so that I can go back there and help girls who dropped out of school to further their education," she said.
