A top official from the county government of Nyamira is embroiled in an alleged land grabbing saga, a matter that is currently dragging in a Kitale Police Station.
County Secretary Erick Onchana, a former ministry of lands officer, is accused of fraudulently obtaining a 13-acre piece of land in the slopes of Kwanza constituency.
In an exclusive interview with this writer, Mr Mariita Onchari, the complainant, accuses Mr Onchana of allegedly using his powers to intimidate him to submission.
"I was born here and my parents (who are deceased) left us behind this land. I have been cultivating it until recently when a governor's aide from Nyamira came on board and forcefully partitioned the land," he said.
According to him, Mr Onchana has been coming with officers attached to Nyamira Police and Kapkoi in Kitale to intimidate him. He now wants the government to intervene and rescue his land.
"He uses police officers from Nyamira and Kapkoi to intimidate me. I have no powers and money. I plead with the government to help me solve this matter," he said.
But in a quick rejoinder, Mr Onchana denies the allegations and accuses the subject of using orthodox means to reclaim a piece of land which he bought.
According to the officer, he legally bought the land and it underwent sub divisions in compliance with the law. He accuses Onchari of being insincere.
"He bought the land using right channels and it has been sub divided. The County Secretary never grabbed any land. Let the complainant be sincere. He has even lost in court before," said a close ally of the CS who did not wish to be named.
