Kisii County Governor James Ongwae has lauded Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohammed for suspending the new education system.
Ongwae while speaking on Friday when he joined mourners at the burial of Samuel Aondo Ong'era who was Kisii County MP Janet Ong'era's elder brother at Otachi Village in Masige East Ward, Bobasi Constituency said more consultations are needed before the new education system is rolled out.
"I am happy that Amina stopped the new system for more stakeholders to be consulted. Despite the inconveniences caused to parents who have been preparing their children for the new education system, it is time parents should accept and allow their children to go on with the old system (8-4-4)," he said.
According to Ongwae, the government should not rush to implement the new system.
He encouraged teachers to stick to the old system and focus on teaching children to ensure they are excelling in exams.
The ODM allied Governor insisted that his government is committed to improve infrastructure in various schools more especially ECDE classes.
"Young children joining schools should have a good foundation right from the lowest class. My administration will recruit more ECDE teachers," he added.
