The officers commenced the investigations after the woman's decomposing body was found inside her rented house in Makutano estate on Sunday.

Confirming the incident, Mwala police boss Henry Kimathi said the body was retrieved after the deceased's neighbors smelled odor emanating from her house on Sunday evening.

"Neighbours raised alarm due to the bad smell which was emanating from the deceased's house that was locked at that time," Kimathi said.

Kimathi said the deceased was a bar attendant at a pub in Mwala market, Machakos County.

He said the woman was gagged with a piece of cloth.

"A piece of cloth covered her mouth and the door was locked," he said.

Kimathi urged residents to provide any information that may aid in the investigations.

He assured the locals of heightened security in the entire sub-county.

"We have opened a new file for the investigations, we urge members of the public to provide information which may help us unravel the mystery surrounding this woman's death," Kimathi said.

"People should not be afraid, security will be assured. Night patrols will be intensified to ensure cases of insecurity are unheard of," he added.

The deceased's body was removed to Machakos Level 5 Hospital's mortuary.
