The police have been placed on the spot over rising insecurity in Bondo constituency, Siaya county.
According to residents, cases of murders and other rcrimes have been on the rise in the area lately, and are now accusing the law enforcers of laxity in the fight against crime.
Led by are Member of Parliament Gideon Ochanda, they are now calling for a complete change of guard in the region, especially the sub-county Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
Speaking to the Monday Standard, the lawmaker said that the situation has been worsening over the last three months, the latest being the murder of a seven year old boy.
Similar remarks were echoed by area human rights defender Rodgers Otieno who said that a number of criminal cases remain unresolved and suspects still roaming free.
“We are appealing to police, especially the DCI to speed up investigations on a number of incidents that have happened in the area and bring the suspects to book,” he was quoted.
Two weeks ago, the body of a murdered woman was found dumped in a out latrine in Usenge, only 300 metres from the Usenge Police Station.
The woman who was identified as Janet Ogiti had reportedly gone missing from her house the night, weeks after a hotel owner was killed and dumped in Usigu.
On his side, Siaya Police Commander Francis Kooli said that his office is working on the issue.
