His arrest becomes the first one after major contested post Robert Mugabe elections which were won by Emmerson Mnangagwa of ZANU-PF.

Biti, also a former MDC spokesman during Morgan Tsvangirai's era, is not new to controversy since he had tasted the wrath of local police before in running battles.

Lawyer Nqobizitha Milo said Biti was arrested after presenting himself to Zambian immigration officials at Chirundu border, North of Harare and police were yet to confirm charges.

However, after the disputed presidential elections in which Mnangagwa garnered 50.8 per cent, Biti has been among key opposition leaders advocating for swearing-in.

The MDC party has close ties with Raila Odinga's ODM and after the death of Tsvangirai, Raila was among key international leaders who addressed mourners.

Zimbabwe police have been in pursuit of Raila's aide Silas Jakakimba, who is accused of reportedly organizing violence.
