Raila said  said the former Vice President was unreacheable on phone when he unsuccessfully tried to reach him for consultation prior to the meeting.

"I called Kalonzo before the meeting but his phone was off, he is aware since he later got a notification that Itried reaching him," Raila said.

He spoke at Katani in Machakos County on Monday.

Raila was responding to the claims that he betrayed Kalonzo, Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula and Amani's Musalia Mudavadi for the handshake without involving them.

"Even if my friend Raila did not tell me as he went there, I still support the act," Kalonzo said.

The duo spoke during an official openning of a private health facility, Katani Hospital.

The famous handshake between Raila and Kenyatta has for months led to divisions in NASA leadership with Kalonzo, Wetangula, Mudavadi accusing Raila of betrayal.
