Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has hailed Governor Mike Sonko for shortlisting four women for the deputy governor post.
Sakaja now wants the process of selecting the Nairobi deputy governor to be fast-tracked.
Speaking to journalists at Parliament Buildings in Nairobi on Thursday, the senator said that Nairobians have stayed for long without a deputy governor.
“I think it will be fair if the governor and the county assembly expedite on picking the successful candidate for the deputy post,” he said.
Sakaja said that Sonko’s move to shortlist women is laudable and shows that he respects gender equality.
The Nairobi senator said that Sonko will fast-track service delivery if he has a deputy to assist him.
On Wednesday, Sonko shortlisted former Starehe MP Margret Wanjiru, gender activist Agnes Kagure, lawyers Karen Nyamu and Jane Weru for the deputy governor position.
The Nairobi deputy governor's office was left vacant after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe in January.
