About a month ago, AP officer Joash Ombati helped to stop a suspected robbery-with-violence incident in what Nairobians termed as the most heroic act from the men in blue.
He did it for the civilians, little knowing that he would receive accolades later.
Interior CS Fred Matiang'i has now surprised Ombati with a Distinguished Service Award.
“Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i has awarded Administration Police officer Joash Ombati a certificate in recognition of his heroic act whereby he pursued two criminals who had robbed a trader," said Government Spokesman in a statement.
Peter Kavoli and Sameer Abdulaziz Kassim had masqueraded as traders only to dupe Amos Charo Saroan, a customer travelling from Voi, of his Sh732,000.
However, Charo was lucky as Ombati was at the scene guarding a bank.
He shot in the air and made the suspects to surrender before handcuffing and arresting them.
Incidents of criminals masquerading as sellers or buyers on selling platforms like OLX have been rampant n the city.
In February this year, a woman in Kibera was duped of her Sh120,000 after rogue sellers invited her to the CBD to deposit cash to buy a used car.
She was supposed to pay the deposit and clear another Sh120,000 in six monthly installments, only to learn that they were thieves.
