President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday refused to be drawn into 2022 politics during a roundtable interview at the Mombasa State Lodge.
Uhuru was talking to five journalists from local television stations where he was to discuss the state of the nation.
He, however, remained adamant that he would not be drawn into the 2022 debate.
The head of state said that his interest was to lay a form of governance which will ensure that Kenyans do not fight each other during elections.
“I have never discussed 2022 with Raila even for a single day. Mine is to see that we have a situation where no one feels left out. A system where no blood is spilled during elections, that is my agenda and I will not stop,” Uhuru said.
When K24 TV’s journalist Adas Ihanji tried to corner the President on his choice for 2022, the head of state became upset.
“Hii ujinga ya siasa ya 2022 mimi msiniulize, hiyo ni yenyu na msinikasirishe,” (Do not ask me about the 2022 nonsense, that's up to you and don't you push me hard) the head of state reacted.
Uhuru hit out at those engaging in his succession politics saying that is not a priority at the moment.
“How can they engage in politics when we were in an election the other day?” he posed.
