Up to 14 people have been confirmed dead after gunmen ambushed Dusit2D hotel in Nairobi’s Riverside Drive on Tuesday afternoon.

The fifteen bodies were taken to Chiromo mortuary.

Among those killed is an American woman, a British man and 10 Kenyans according to their documents.

 Two had no identification documents.US state department has confirmed that an American was killed.

A CCTV footage that emerged on Tuesday night laid bare four attackers who stormed the hotel.

The four are seen heavily armed with AK47s and shooting indiscriminately.

By Wednesday morning, the rescue operations were still ongoing.

Police spokesperson Charles Owino told Citizen TV on phone that the area is still a crime scene.

“Riverside Drive is still a crime scene and we are requesting people to keep off. We will give directions in the next one hour on how people will get information in regard to tracing their loved ones,” he said.

Journalists camping at the scene said there were still gunshots and explosions in the building despite Interior CS Fred Matiang’i having issued a press that the government had secured the building.

Militant group Al Shabaab claimed responsibility for the attack.

“We are behind the attack in Nairobi. The operation is going on. We shall give details later,” Abdiasis Abu Musab told Al Jazeera.
