National Assembly Speaker Justin Muturi on Thursday asked Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi to stop disrespecting Majority Leader Aden Duale after she interrupted his speech.
Muturi warned the lawmaker that he would ask her out of the chambers if she continues with the same habit. He reminded her that there is a need to maintain law and order.
"Honourable Fatuma Gedi, the next time I hear you shouting when another member is speaking, you will be out of that door," stated Muturi, in part.
Duale, on the other hand, maintained his calm nature and promised not to touch a woman even if she slaps him. He said that he respects women in the house and the entire nation
"I can assure you that even if the ladies in this house slap me, I will not slap them. I am a very peaceful man," he said.
The incident comes days after Wajir East MP Rashid Kassim slapped Gedi following an altercation in outside parliamentary buildings. The occurrence angered female MPs.
The lawmakers stormed out of Parliament during the reading of the budget for the financial year 2019/2020.
Kassim was later arrested and charged in court over the assault. He was later freed pending investigations into the incident.
