Federal Party of Kenya (FPK) candidate for the concluded Migori senatorial by-election has once again disassociated himself from Deputy President William Ruto and area Governor Okoth Obado.
Oketch was in the course of the campaigns accused by members of the rival Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) of being fronted by the two to shake the party’s dominance in the region.
Speaking on Radio Maisha Monday morning, however, Oketch said that neither of the two funded him, noting that his funds came from well-wishers.
He added that he used his national and international links to facilitate his campaigns, adding that a portion of his funds originated from locals sold to his ideologies.
‘’The narrative about Ruto was a lie. My campaigns were funded by my network of friends both nationally and abroad. Some of them are successful business people in the nation,’’ he said.
‘’Youths who believed in me also did crowd contributions and funded me,’’ he added.
One of the things that was said to directly link him to the Deputy President Ruto was his campaign chopper, which he now says was a campaign propaganda.
‘’I never used choppers all through my campaigns. It was only one chopper and I used it in the last 4 days. This was because of the distance and security purposes,’’ added Oketch.
Oketch lost to ODM's Ochillo Ayacko.
