Former Kakamega Senator Bonnie Khalwale insists his decision to formally join Deputy President William Ruto's camp was informed by his focus to find space for Luhya people in the next government.
At Malinya on Friday, Khalwale, who has been Ford Kenya Deputy Party leader, formally joined DP Ruto's camp, after weeks of drumming support for the latter across the country.
In his speech, Khalwale said he's keen to have the community having a say in the next administration, insisting that Dr Ruto is best poised to form government.
"I will not be ashamed to find space for the Luhya people in the next government" he said.
Before his defection, Ford Kenya disciplinary committee chair Ferdinand Wanyonyi had written to the former legislator a show cause letters, demanding to know why an action should not be taken against him.
Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula, who has been dragged to Sh400 million gold scandal, said Dr Khalwale was at liberty to join other parties.
"My 1st deputy PL Dr Bonny Khalwale has made his democratic decision and choice to leave Ford Kenya. It is his constitutional right to associate with persons of his choice. Ford Kenya wishes him well in his new political trajectory. FK remains solid," he wrote.
The Luhya community has produced three Vice Presidents before. They include; Musalia Mudavadi, Michael Wamalwa and Moody Awori.
