Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi has pleaded with politicians to champion peace and unity.
Speaking in Eastleigh, Nairobi County on Saturday during the 'Firi Firi' festival, Gedi cautioned politicians against making statements that could cause divisions in the country.
The vocal MP said the country needs to remain united in order to achieve her development goals.
She raised concerns over the raging 2022 succession debate noting that it poses threat to the country's unity.
Gedi lamented that some politicians are taking advantage of the succession debate to spew hate.
"We must be careful as politicians on what we say when in political rallies, prayer services, funerals or even religious podium," the MP said.
Gedi claimed that some politicians are making statements that could easily trigger disunity among Kenyans.
"We don't want to go to the dark days and every politician must be ready to take responsibility of what he or she speaks about in public," the Wajir MP added.
Gedi asked Kenyans to remain united and shun politicians propagating their own interests.
She also asked Kenyans to demand services from their elected leaders.
The 2022 succession politics continue to take center stage across the divide.
On Saturday, Central Oraganisation of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli elicited sharp reactions when he claimed that Deputy President William Ruto's name will not be on the presidential ballot in 2022 election.
Already a section of Ruto's allies among them Garissa MP Aden Duale has criticised Atwoli's remarks.
