Amani National Congress (ANC) leader Musalia Mudavadi has once again thrown his weight behind the recalling for Sh1000 tender bills.
Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) Governor Patrick Njoroge on Saturday said that the money will be completely out of use by October 1st, a move Mudavadi has backed.
Speaking on Sunday, the former Finance Minister, however, called upon Kenyans to be vigilant at this time, noting that cartels storing huge amounts of money in their hosues and other places will be seeking to dispose them before the deadline.
He urged them to be careful with people seeking to purchase their properties using cash, advising that the same could be heavily employed in the next few months.
“People might come buy your land or car in cash yet all they are doing is transfer their problems to you. The money night be counterfeit," he was quoted by the Standard.
Mudavadi further called upon the state to stand its ground on the deadline, warning that extending it will be disadvantageous in the war against corruption.
According to the former Vice President, there is need to ensure that the cartels are not given time to launder all the money in their possession.
“If they extend the withdrawal date, they are giving room to the fellows who have illicit cash in go downs and mattresses time to launder it," he added.
