Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen has lashed out at the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party for expelling Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa and her Msambweni counterpart Suleiman Dori.
Murkomen took to Twitter to express his anger over the decision to expel the two saying it was against the Constitution.
He said that Jumwa and Dori were protected under the Constitution adding that they will not lose their positions.
According to Murkomen, the two should not be punished for supporting Deputy President William Ruto when Opposition leader Raila Odinga was the first person to embrace Jubilee through the handshake.
While mocking the swearing of Raila last year as the People’s president at Uhuru Park, the senator said Jumwa and Dori did not swear themselves in as presidents, therefore, should be not be punished.
“Jumwa and Dori are going nowhere. Under our Constitutional dispensation, their rights are firmly protected. It is not like they went to Uhuru Park and swore themselves in as Presidents?”
“The people who are intolerant to the proliferation of the handshake are the same people who have been encouraging our own MPs to insult our Party Leader. Despite all that we have never even contemplated expelling anyone because the Party is bigger than its leadership.”
“I will tell you the story of Homa Bay MCAs some day. For now, the only reason why ODM is barbarically threatening expulsions is not so much to punish Jumwa and Dori but rather to forestall impending exodus. Someone should tell them that #nobodycanstopreggae,” he said on Twitter.
Jumwa and Dori had been summoned early October to appear before the disciplinary committee over their persistent public utterances against the ODM Party and its leader.
The two had publicly confessed their support for Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid.
They were further accused of advancing interests of another political party contrary to ODM’s constitution.
