President Uhuru Kenyatta has made his intervention in the raging water debate pitting Nairobi and Murang'a counties against each other.
Speaking Saturday during a clean-up exercise at Uhuru Market, he called on those seeking to politicise water to stop it as water is God's blessing to the people of Kenya.
"I am saying and I am pleading with leaders to stop the politicisation of water. Water is God's gift to his people. What we need is for us to come together to determine how to use this resource. This resource is ours," President Uhuru said.
The remarks are seen as veiled criticism of Murang'a Governor Mwangi Wairia who is locked in a war of words with his Nairobi counterpart Governor Sonko.
Wairia threatened to cut the water supply to Nairobi which comes from the Ndakaini Dam.
The governor argued that water is a resource like any other and that Nairobi should pay for it.
