The truce which is commemorated by their handshake outside Uhuru's Harambee House offices came at a time when most Kenyans considered him finished after his fourth presidential loss in the hands of Uhuru in 2017.

According to political analyst Barrack Muluka, Raila has been involved in three of such with sitting presidents, proof that he might be the biggest political victim in the nation.

In an interview on Radio Maisha's Bunge La Maisha on Monday, Muluka said that they point at a man who is being victimized but is ready to let it go for the sake of the nation.

"Huenda amekuwa akifanyiwa madhila wakati huu wote ila akaamua kuyaacha nyuma ili nchi iendelee (this could be proof that they have been victimizing him but he has been letting it go for the sake of the nation)," he said.

The first handshake coming when he dissolved his National Development Party (NDP) and joined then President Daniel Moi in KANU in 2002, this was cemented by a handshake.

This was after Raila changed his mind on challenging election results after his loss to Moi in 1997.

In 2007, Raila was again at it, this time with President Mwai Kibaki, ending the 2007/2008 post-election violence after Raila rejected Kibaki's 2007 reelection citing rigging.

According to Muluka, the nation now needs to revisit such to come up with lasting solutions that will prevent the need for other handshakes in the future.

"Tumalize hiki kinachutulazimisha kuwa ha hizi salamu (let's get rid of what makes us need these handshakes)," he said.

The latest handshake came at a time when the nation was politically polarized as a result of Raila's rejection of Uhuru's reelection, but the truce seems to have calmed the situation.
