Two fishermen reportedly died while fishing in Lake Victoria on Thursday.
The two, 37-year-old Vincent Ouma and George Odhiambo (40) were fishing in Nyatike sub-county, Migori county in the company of two others.
They later encountered an accident and drowned in the lake, while others managed to save themselves by swimming to the shore.
According to one of the survivors, 30-year-old Kennedy Odhiambo, the accident occurred at around 9 PM when their boat was hit by high tides, ending up capsizing.
"There were strong winds and high tides so we could not sail further. We swam to safety but our colleagues drowned," he is quoted by the Daily Nation.
Confirming the incident, Lower Central Kadem Location Chief Phillipo Opollo Orwa said that the boat which had 4 fishermen capsized near Modi Ngwena Beach.
One of the bodies has since been retrieved and is being preserved at the Sori Lakeside Hospital Mortuary.
