It really hurts when you store some shilling notes in the house only to find that your toddler has teared them into pieces.

This renders them almost useless, as most traders and shop owners will not accept such mutilated currency for fear of being rejected when they transact with others.

At times, people have been forced to join them with cello tape or glue, and forced to handle them with care to prevent the pieces from falling off.

However, you do not need to go through all that trouble as you can surrender the mutilated note in exchange for a new and fresh one of the same value.

This can be done at the Central Bank of Kenya (CBK) branches across the nation free of charge.

The bank also takes in old, destroyed and contaminated notes in exchange for new ones, provided that you can provide them with the sufficient parts and remains of the destroyed money.

Therefore, you do not need to fear when your money is destroyed. You only have to take it out and deliver it for a new one.

The bank also takes moribund currencies like 50 cent coins and all the other coins that are no longer in use.
