A woman in Nyansabakwa, Nyamira County is yet to come to terms after thugs raided her house and stole Sh30,000 on Sunday.
Josephine Nyanchama said three armed thugs stormed her house at 11 pm on Sunday and ordered her to surrender all the money she received as tea bonus.
"I was a sleep when the thugs who had covered their faces with masks entered my house. They asked me to give all the money I was keeping in the house failure to which they will kill me. I had no option rather that to surrender Sh30,000 to them," she said.
Mrs. Nyanchama said neighbors could not respond to her distress calls.
"I screamed when the thugs left the house but, no one came into my rescue. I have not wronged anyone in the village to be abandoned," she noted.
Area assistant chief Jared Oyaro said the matter was reported to his office on Monday morning.
"Probe is ongoing to apprehend the suspects. It is not clear why neighbors did not respond when the victim raised alarm," he said.
He urged tea farmers not to keep money they will receive as tea bonuses in their houses.
