An outbreak of a strange disease has been reported at Starehe Girls school in Kiambu County.

In a statement, the school management said several tests have been conducted on affected students, but no clear diagnosis has been established.

The management noted that some of the symptoms of the disease included; intense coughing, sneezing and fever. 

The school management further noted that 52 students have been affected, and are currently in an isolated area.

"52 girls have since then been isolated for observation within the school. Samples have been obtained for further tests. Their parents and guardians have been informed and the school is in constant communication with them," the statement read in part.

In the statement, the school affirmed that it was working with relevant authorities to ensure the issue is dealt with soonest possible.

"We are currently working with the National government Ministry of health, department of Integrated Disease Surveillance Response (IDSR) and the Sub-County health department through Ruaraka sub-county health team as well as volunteer doctors from the Old Stareheian Society to ascertain the cause and contain the situation," the school management said.
