Obado is believed to have among others had  his own construction firms awarded a county tender, in an alleged scheme to siphon county funds.

The firm, Janto Construction, was reportedly awarded the tender to repair the Nyabisawa-Jumbo Road for 16.8 billion 4 months ago, with the job ending in July.

According to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) which has since frozen some of Obado’s and his associates’ oversees bank accounts, the Governor used 23 other firms to win tenders between 2013 and last year amounting to Ksh 2.3 billion, reports the Daily Nation.

Janto whose account had been frozen in November is also reported to have received at least 141 million in tenders, between June 13, 2014 and June 19, 2017, according to documents in possession of the EACC.

The Governor is currently fighting murder allegations over the killing of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno who was found lifeless three weeks ago.

His bail application is being considered by Judge Jessie Lessit with the outcome set to be released on Thursday, as the county chief meanwhile remains remanded in  Industrial Area Prison.
