The Energy Regulatory Commission Director General Robert Pavel Oimeke has appealed to Kisii residents to add value to their lives by using electricity.
Oimeke, while speaking in Kisii town on Saturday, said that residents who are connected to power should not only use the power to provide light at their homes but also use it as a way to generate income.
"As a domestic consumer, you don't just take power to provide light with you. Can you add value to it by using the electricity you have to do something that can generate income," he said.
The Director-General said Kisii region is rich in agricultural activities and therefore, the residents should use electricity to boost their agricultural activities.
"Electricity can be used to preserve agricultural produce which will later be sold to and in return, the residents can get money," he stated.
Oimeke's remarks come after DP William Ruto, who was presiding over a fund drive at Gusii Stadium on Saturday, announced that 25,000 new households will be connected to electricity before the end of the year.
Ruto said that the residents deserve electricity to provide lights at their homes, curb insecurity as well as help traders extend their operational hours.
