Deputy President William Ruto is yet to appear before the office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to shed more light on claims that his life is in danger.
Sources indicate that the second in command has insisted that only DCI George Kinoti can interrogate him over the assassination plot and not any junior detective from the office.
Kinoti allegedly sent head of Economic Crime Unit Michael Sang to probe the matter but he was snubbed after spending hours at the office of the second in command.
An informed officer, who spoke to the Standard, revealed that the junior detective’s effort to meet Ruto proved futile after long hours of waiting.
It remains unclear why Ruto has been reluctant to record the statement with anyone else after he claimed that someone wants him dead.
“(Sang) was kept waiting for the better part of Monday afternoon in vain. We are still waiting for the way forward,” said an informed officer, as quoted by Standard.
Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai reportedly contacted Ruto over the issue but sources claim that he insisted Kinoti to take charge.
Kinoti’s confidants believe that the DP could take advantage of the situation to critic him considering the way he handled the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
Cabinet Secretaries Joseph Mucheru (ICT), Peter Munya (Trade) and Sicily Kariuki (Health) and James Macharia (Transport) were summoned over the alleged plot to assassinate Ruto before 2022.
Munya has, however, insisted that there are no plans to eliminate the DP as alleged.
