The explosives were found by fishermen in Kiumba Beach, with the police suspecting that they could have been left behind by colonialists who used to fish in the lake during the colonial era.

The fishermen said that they stumbled on two of the explosives concealed in an old wooden box, reports the Citizen Digital.

Confirming the incident, Kiumba Beach Management Unit Chairman Samuel Odira Osewe said that the third explosive was found floating on the water by the fishermen.

He noted that they pulled out the box thinking that they had landed a big catch, before reporting the case to Mbita Police Station officers who arrived immediately.

The explosives were received by Homa Bay County Directorate of Criminal Investigations Chief Daniel Wachira.

He said that bomb experts from Kisumu County have since been invited to examine the objects before the officers can decide on their next action.
