The suspect identified as Natembeya, reportedly attacked Mary Natembeya after a domestic squabble at their home in Namarambi village in Webuye East Sub County, Wednesday.

According to the victim's sister, the man was angered after his wife refused to accompany him home after trailing her to a funeral vigil of a close neighbour the previous night.

She added that upon returning home the next morning, the husband emerged with a machete and pounced on her as she was preparing their children for school, injuring her badly.

“My in-law had gone to a funeral when her husband trailed her up to where she was and asked her to accompany him back home, she refused and said that she would spend a night vigil at the funeral until morning. That is when her husband to leave for home alone,” she told the Standard.

Mary was rushed by relatives to the Bakhita Dispensary before being referred to the Luguru Missionary Hospital where doctors said that she suffered multiple deep cuts.

Dr Ezekiel Waguoma said that she sustained deep cuts in the right shoulder, both hands and the skull, noting that doctors have since stopped the bleeding and stitched the wounds.
