According to US-based scholar Makau Mutua, the March 9 handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and opposition leader Raila Odinga has complicated matters for Ruto.

During the next election, he predicted, Uhuru will abandon his deputy and endorse his 'brother' Raila for the top seat.

Mutua said the newly-found political union between the two leading politicians has helped the President build on his much-needed legacy and that is what will make Uhuru 'reward' Raila by choosing him over Ruto.

"Kenyatta will not sacrifice his legacy to put Ruto in power. The signs are there for those with eyes to see and ears to hear. Kenyatta and Raila will not be separated. They are Siamese twins," he wrote in his weekly column on Sunday Standard.

The outspoken law scholar said the DP will not get the backing of Mt Kenya region despite mounting massive pressure to be repaid 2013 political debt.

"Kenyatta’s “people” won’t vote for Ruto in 2022. Nyet. Nada. Zilch. Ruto is better advised to stop wasting his time and look for votes elsewhere. That’s a bitter pill Ruto must swallow," Mutua stated.
