Garissa county referral hospital is staring at closure following the recent move by the national government to freeze the facility's accounts over alleged theft cases.

According to a report compiled by the Garissa county assembly seen by this writer, the reported loss happened when the facility's Chief Executive Officer Mr salah Dakane recommended the change of the signatories of the accountants.

Before the county assembly broke for recess last week, the hospital has for long been micromanaged.

The chief officer Finance Malow in conjunction with the CEO are alleged to have overseen the loss of funds.

The report further alleged the chief finance officer of the facility could not account for the loss of Ksh 19 Million  from the NHIF kitty. 

The assembly health committee chair Irshad Hilowle Osman who is also the Ijara MCA disclosed that they were forced to storm into the hospital and seized sensitive documents that would be used against the facility's administrators.
