Musila said the MCAs' refusal to approve the county's supplementary budget amounts to sabotage.

Addressing the press in Kitui town on Sunday, Musila said Kitui residents are suffering as a result of the MCAs' failure to approve the budget.

"The MCAs must stop playing politics with serious issues facing Kitui residents," Musila said.

Musila said the Kitui county government's operations are likely to be affected if the budget is not approved.

"We hear that the Kitui county government has not even paid county workers their December salaries and the situation is worse," Musila said.

Musila, who unsuccessfully contested for the Kitui gubernatorial seat in the 2017 general election, warned elected leaders against engaging in petty issues.

He urged the leaders to diligently serve the people who elected them.

Kitui MCAs have vowed not to approve the supplementary budget.

The county legislators want Ngilu to account for how she has been utilizing previous budgets.

On Sunday, Ngilu accused MCAs of allegedly blackmailing and frustrating her work.

Ngilu said she will not yield to MCAs selfish demands, noting that she is ready to have the county government dissolved for fresh elections to be conducted.

Last month, Governor Ngilu pleaded with Wiper party leader Kalonzo Musyoka to intervene and have the MCAs, majority who are from his party approve the county's supplementary budget.
