Two people who had visited Menengai Crater for prayers have disappeared.
The two had reportedly travelled from Kitale to the crater for Easter prayers.
They then decided to take a walk when they disappeared.
“The two informed the congregation that they had travelled from Kitale for Easter prayers at the sacred prayer centre before they disappeared," Kenya Red Cross Society, Nakuru branch chairperson Njeri Muhia, said.
Muhia said one of the victims was on Saturday seen trapped on a tree branch, but it was not established if he was dead or alive as rescuers mounted a search.
Rescuers could not, however, reach the victim due to the steepness of the terrain there.
“Our team rushed to the site but only managed to trace one person. However, the rescuers could not get to him because of the steep nature of the crater. We can therefore not confirm if he is alive or dead,” Muhia said.
Bahati county police commander Jacinta Muthoni told the Standard details about the two are scanty.
“Information about the two remains scanty but we are in communication with police from Kitale to help us locate the families,” Muthoni said.
