Raila Odinga's Orange Democratic Movement party has paid tribute to Wajir West by-election winner Ahmed Kolosh, taking credit for having introduced him to 'serious politics'.
Early this year, Kolosh decamped to Jubilee party after losing his seat following a Supreme Court decision filed by his competitor Sheikh Ibrahim of KANU, arguing that majority of his constituents belong to Jubilee.
“Kenyans have now moved on and are working together on matters of development. Reading the mood of Kenya and Wajir in particular, I have resolved to join Jubilee Party because majority of leaders and people there are supporters of the ruling party,” said Mr Kolosh.
On Thursday, Kolosh said through after scoring 11,053 votes against Ibrahim's 6,532 votes. The total turnout was 17,000 of the 27, 000 registered voters in the constituency.
In a statement on official Twitter handle, ODM congratulated Mr Kolosh, asking him to focus on delivering for his constituents after the famous victory.
"Congratulations Hon. Ahmed Kolosh on recapturing the Wajir West parliamentary seat. We are glad to have been associated with you and introduced to serious politics. Time to serve your people now," the party wrote.
Early this month, ODM candidate Prof Yusuf Elmi pulled out of the race after being prevailed upon by Deputy President William Ruto. The DP was keen to capture the seat through Mr Kolosh.
There were claims that Raila Odinga scolded party Secretary General Edwin Sifuna for not having prior intelligence to Mr Elmi's plans, forcing the party to work with rival Jubilee.
