A senior official of President Uhuru Kenyatta led Jubilee Party has told Deputy President William Ruto to prepare to go it alone for vote hunting in Mt Kenya region ahead of the 2022 general election.
The party's Vice Chairman David Murathe who is among Ruto's fiercest critics from Central Kenya on Monday reiterated that Ruto's support from the region is not guaranteed.
"There is no one who is forced to support William Ruto," he told People Daily in an interview.
"What I know is that voting is a choice. Anybody is free to run in 2022 including Raila Odinga. 2022 is not about the DP it is about the party. Who knows who will be alive in 2022. It is up to the DP to work hard and make sure that passion remains in 2022."
Murathe spoke hours before the Jubilee party canceled its planned meeting at State House where Uhuru and Ruto were expected to address MPs allied to the party over issues that have rocked their unity.
Ruto's push to succeed Uhuru has sent shivers across Jubilee inner circles. Pro-Ruto supporters have accused some handlers of the President of sabotaging his bid for State House in 2022.
Senate Majority Leader Kipchumba Murkomen, Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi and other Rift Valley politicians in the past week spoke tough on Uhuru-Ruto unity ahead of 2022 but later toned down.
