A Kisii County MCA now wants Governor James Ongwae to allocate more resources to the agricultural department given its importance to locals.
Marani ward MCA Dennis Ombachi while speaking on Wednesday at his jurisdiction, stated that Agriculture is the back bone for the economy.
"Kisii residents depend on Agriculture for a living. I am therefore challenging Governor Ongwae to ensure the Agriculture docket is allocated enough resources to enable the officers traverse the county to educate people on modern methods of farming to boost yields," he said.
Mr. Ombachi insisted that residents must venture more into agricultural activities due to lack of jobs in the country.
"Youths should not be selective on jobs. It is high time our youths should venture into farming to grow sugarcane, bananas among other crops which they will sell to earn a living," he stated.
He challenged county MCAs to fund agricultural projects in their respective wards for the purpose of motivating farmers.
Mr. Ombachi asked Governor Ongwae to ensure quality seeds are issued to small scale farmers for free which will give high yields.
