The family of lawyer Assa Nyakundi has come out in the defense of the embattled advocate, who is accused of shooting and killing his son Joseph on Sunday at Runda estate after church.
With police still investigating the murder, government pathologist Johansen Oduor is expected to submit autopsy report on Thursday as the death's inquest takes a new shape.
Back in Gusii, Nyakundi's brother, Rev Eliud Nyakundi, insists his brother had no reasons whatsoever to brutally murder his son, adding that there was no known differences between the duo.
“We are children of the clergy and we have been raised in a Christian environment. On the flipside, we are an educated family by any standards, not struggling financially and no career frustrations. We were raised beyond the village life and our father taught us to go out there and manage our world,” said Eliud, the eighth born in their family.
“For all this time, he has handled his firearm well and at no single time did he misuse it. He is a person of stable mind and does not suffer anger or annoyance,” said Eliud.
While Assa still remains admitted at Nairobi Hospital, his son's body is lying at Aga Khan Hospital awaiting autopsy. According to Rev Eliud, an uncle to the deceased, Joseph had completed University and was hoping to join one of her sisters in Ireland.
“He was there mid last year but he delayed joining university and had to come back home. He wanted to study a masters degree in international relations,” said Eliud.
Mr Nyakundi had four children. Two of his daughters are married abroad while his elder son Noah is a lawyer. Apparently, their mother died before Assa married a second woman who is a teacher.
