The father of former Garissa Finance Executive Idriss Mukhtar who is fighting for his life in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has made shocking claims on the the son's attempted murder.
Aden Mukhtar says that his son received serious threats from unknown people months to his attempted murder.
According to Aden, unknown people used to call and send threatening text messages to his son.
Aden alleges that the unknown people used to warn his son against persuing a case involving a Garissa county government official.
"He (Mukhtar) used to get threats and we as the family advised him to report the matter to police," he said as quoted by a local daily on Friday.
Aden claims that at one point police detectives laid trap for the people who used to send threats to his son but it backfired.
Mukhtar's father further claims that the unknown callers in one of their text messages to his son said that they had been sent by a 'big man' to eliminate him.
Aden further notes that at some point the unknown callers demanded for huge money from Mukhtar to abandon the mission of killing him.
"They (assailants) said they knew where my son lived and would eliminate him if he failed to give out the ransom," Mukhtar father said.
Mukhtar was sprayed with bullets in Kileleshwa by unknown assailants on August 19.
According to doctors, a bullet is lodged in Mukhtar's head.
The former Ce C who had been admitted at Nairobi Hospital Intensive Care Unit (ICU) has since been flown to India for speacilised treatment as detectives finalize probe into the attempted murder.
Garissa Governor Ali Bunow Korane is among people who have been interrogated in connection to the attempted murder.
Korane has denied any involvement in the former CEC attempted murder.
