Former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo has reacted following the revelation that 60 infants died within a span of two months at a Kiambu hospital.
In a Twitter post on Thursday morning, the flamboyant politician called for urgent investigations into the matter, noting that the cases were sad and unacceptable.
“As much as I hate to comment on Kiambu leadership issues, this is very sad and unacceptable. The medical practitioners' board should look into this matter and urgently so,” tweeted Kabogo.
The former county boss was reacting to a story published by The Star Newspaper.
According to the article, the 60 cases were reported at the Kiambu Level 5 Hospital.
The medical superintendent at the hospital Mr Jesse Ngugi has, however, absolved the health facility of any blame.
Ngugi argued that according to a mortality and morbidity audit carried out at the facility, the deaths were due to respiratory complications and premature births.
He noted that the infants didn’t die due to negligence or machine failure, adding that the newborn unit is fully functional as all the incubators are in good condition.
The superintendent further revealed that out of the 60 reported cases, 30 infants died in December last year, 20 in January and 10 this month.
