A Monday night fire in Likoni, Mombasa County, has claimed four lives.

The four family members have died after fire gutted down their residential house in Ijara, near Shelly Beach.

According to Likoni Deputy County Commissioner Erick Wamulevu, a domestic quarrel from some of the tenants caused a gas cylinder to burst into flames.

"The fire spread so fast to a nearby house after firefighters ran out of water," he said.

Witnesses said firefighters came in hours later but they luckily managed to contain the fire.

Wamulevu confirmed that two children are among the victims of the fire.
