When DCJ Philomena Mwilu was first arrested on Tuesday, a battery of lawyers showed up perhaps to provide pro-bono to the second senior most member of the bench.

And at Milimani law courts, Mwilu is seen guided by a tall lawyer, who gives instructions and at times consults with her.

Few minutes later, the DCJ is given a personal bond just before appearing on Wednesday in court.

While James Orengo, the renowned Senior Counsel is credited for organised defense for Mwilu, little is however said about Okong'o Mogeni, the Nyamira Senator who is part of the 32 lawyers in defense.

As Orengo put spirited fight at Magistrate court, Mogeni was at High Court where he successfully applied for suspension of crimanal proceedings against Mwilu, which was granted by Chacha Mwita.

"They have criminalised business transaction and this is a blow to our justice system.

"We should all the time follow the law and this case cannot start if that is not done," he warned.

Although he's a common figure, Mogeni, a senior counsel, rarely hits headlines like his peers.

Born in 1970 in Borabu, Nyamira, he attended Tinderet, Kericho and Shauri Moyo primary schools.

He would also join Isibania and Kabianga High School before being admitted to University of Nairobi, School of Law where he completed in 1993.

In 2007, Mogeni was elected LSK president and is on record for disowning Mwai Kibaki's victory, a position which perhaps made his name popular.

In 2011, he emerged the best candidate for EACC chairperson position but his name was rejected under unclear circumstances.

Through his ODM party, he lost Nyamira senatorial contest in 2013 before managing to make it to parliament in 2017.

Last year during Raila Odinga's petition against President Uhuru Kenyatta, Mogeni was in the team under James Orengo that successfully delivered a victory.

His application on Wednesday threw DPP Noordin Haji into shambles since legality Mwilu's arrest must now be dealt with first.
